Knauf AQUAPANEL® Systems – the ideal solution for wet indoor areas

When designing wet indoor areas or swimming pool environments, it’s important the construction materials specified and installed meet a variety of key requirements, including: water and chemical resistance, resistance to mould and mildew and, dimensional stability and durability.

Knauf AQUAPANEL® Interior Systems are the ideal solution, covering all the above benefits and more, with two main systems suited to swimming pools*, wet rooms, saunas and other wet indoor areas:

AQUAPANEL® Indoor partition system

This system, utilising AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Indoor, has a water-resistant cement backing board used as part of a full Knauf drywall system that can be finished in multiple ways and offering the perfect solution for walls that are exposed to moisture, chlorine and salt.

AQUAPANEL® Interior Ceiling system

Featuring AQUAPANEL® Skylite Cement Board alongside Knauf C5 coated metal, Knauf jointing and skimming products, this system is water and mould resistant, perfect for ceilings that are exposed to moisture and chlorine. The lightweight boards are 8mm thick making installation even easier.

Both systems are supported by a full range of accessories required for the Knauf full system performance warranty. Knauf is also the only manufacturer to offer a complete, warranted solution for swimming pools in the UK.

The image below shows Knauf’s interior ceiling system during construction. The C5 metal is visible alongside the AQUAPANEL® Skylite boards.

AQUAPANEL® - the simple way!

As AQUAPANEL® indoor weighs only 11kg/m2 the board is lighter to move around than heavier boards; easier to cut using the score and snap method, meaning you just need a straight edge and sharp knife and don’t require any pre-drilling; and faster to install.

AQUAPANEL® - the versatile solution

AQUAPANEL® is also adaptable to curved applications. The boards can be curved to a radius of 1m giving countless design opportunities. Before installation, bend the cement board. The fine cracks that occur on the board surface will not cause any loss of performance.

It’s also possible to create spectacular ceilings thanks to expansion joints that are only needed every 15m and enable a 225m2 closed area without a visible joint.

And to finish…

Both boards can be finished with either Knauf Interior Skim, a ready-mixed skim that is quicker to apply and give an exceptional quality of finish, or Knauf AQUAPANEL® Joint Filler and Skim Coating-White which is a powdered cement-based filling material.

A variety of tile-based finishes can also be applied to AQUAPANEL® partitions, the system can support tiles up to 120kg/m2 using specific build-ups. So, no matter what look you are after, Knauf has the solution!

About AQUAPANEL® Cement Boards
