A Damp proof membrane (DPM) is a sheet of waterproof material laid underneath the floor to protect against rising moisture. Usually made of composite materials, DPMs are applied horizontally under floorboards to protect against damage caused by water ingress and mould growth.

While performing a similar function to damp proof courses (DPCs), DPMs are different in that they are applied during groundworking whereas DPCs are at least 150mm above ground level.
