The retrofit of the six-storey apartment block was carried out by principal contractor Wates, on behalf of Camden Council. Nene Valley Fire was instructed to upgrade the loft space above the existing ceilings, which had been constructed from plaster with an unknown fire rating.
A Firefly FB180 Ablative Batt Floor and Wall System was installed, providing a reliable compartmentation solution for the loft space. Effective compartmentation is imperative to building safety, particularly for multi-storey and multiple occupancy buildings, to slow the spread of fire and smoke. The specified system achieves this in accordance with BS EN 1363-1:2020 and BS EN 1364-2 for unloaded floors, providing 90 minutes integrity, 60 minutes insulation.

However, we found the installation to be straightforward, aided by the prior preparation of the loft areas by Wates and the way different elements of the system worked together to deliver the required performance.
