The specialist contractor, Hamilton (Building Contractors) was responsible for installing the block’s façade, working across all 27 storeys of the building. Encon & Nevill Long Leeds provided materials support, supplying rainscreen insulation, passive fire protection and all necessary fixings.
The sheer volume of materials required meant Encon’s manufacturer relationships came to the fore to provide reassurance of supply from leading brands, bringing together diverse elements of our supply chain to support our customer. Materials from Knauf Insulation, PFC Corofil, DuPont Tyvek, Tremco and EJOT were all needed to meet the project’s complex design, so all elements needed to arrive on time to minimise delays.
Barry Clark, Contracts Director at Hamilton, comments: “Despite unforeseen circumstances regarding the original façade, technical support from the manufacturers ensured we found the right solutions. Encon’s support was invaluable, acting as an essential conduit between us and the manufacturers and providing just in time deliveries.
“We have worked with the team at Encon & Nevill Long Leeds for several years and they always go out of their way to make our lives easier. Wayne Farrugia at the branch is great to work with; we just email through what we need, and he makes sure we receive it at the required time.”
Wayne Farrugia, Internal Sales Executive, Encon & Nevill Long Leeds, explains: “Specific site requirements for this project, caused by limited offload space and storage facilities, meant products had to arrive exactly when they were needed, with little margin for error. Our flexible delivery service and operational efficiency meant we were able to deliver materials earmarked for imminent installation, on time and precisely as required. All deliveries were offloaded onto mast climbers for immediate use.
“Our expansive warehouse facility at Leeds means customers also benefit from the reassurance of supply in line with project needs. We allocate products to specific projects so that we can respond rapidly and accurately when requests come through, ensuring a seamless service delivery at every stage of the project.”

Encon’s strong relationship with PFC Corofil was key to the project, with Hamilton working together with the manufacturer to formulate a passive fire protection strategy for the facade. The solution comprised of Open State Barrier COSB, Cavity Fire Stop CCFS and Open State Inserts from PFC Corofil. The fire engineer was highly impressed with both the product performance and the quality of installation, passing all 16 site inspections.
