CASE STUDY | Chesterfield Royal Hospital Cancer Centre

    17th January 2017

The Chesterfield Royal Hospital Cancer Centre will be ready to open its doors to the public in early 2017, following a construction period of over a year for the two storey building.

As Yorkshire’s most prolific stockist of Fermacell boards, Nevill Long’s Leeds branch was able to secure the deal which formed part of the two and a half year refurbishment of the entire hospital.

The £8.9m centre is the first multi-disciplinary cancer unit in the region, eliminating the need for the 1,500 people who are diagnosed with cancer each year at the hospital to travel elsewhere to receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Within the specification of the build, unusually, the project involved Fermacell also being used as a sheathing board, a relatively new usage for the product and one of the first applications of this type within a hospital.

When asked to comment on the project Branch Director at Leeds, Kevin Byrne, said

“It was a build close to the hearts of everyone at branch; we recently organised a cake sale, raffle and other office games raising £1,610 for Macmillan Cancer, an absolutely fantastic result which we couldn’t have achieved without the amazing team at Leeds and the generosity of our customers and suppliers.”
