HR Director experiences life behind bars for the day

    17th November 2014

Deborah Gore, HR Director at Encon Group, attended the recent Pertemps Employers’ Forum for Reducing Re-offending (EFFRR), which was held inside HM Brixton Prison at ‘The Clink’ restaurant.

Deborah was invited to attend as a guest of Val Lowman OBE, Chief Executive of BeOnSite; the Charity within Lend Lease who are one of Encon’s key customers.

The Clink Restaurant provides meals that are prepared, cooked and served by prisoners training for jobs in the hospitality industry. They gain nationally recognised NVQ qualifications, with the BeOnSite Charity and other employers committed to finding employment for offenders upon release.

Deborah said ‘I was inspired by the employers I met at the event -  it is through the work they’re doing to employ offenders, that they are giving individuals a chance they might not otherwise get. It was thought-provoking to hear James Timpson (CEO of Timpson & Chair of EFFRR) say that: ‘If you want to employ great people, go to a prison’. I am keen to explore how Encon can provide assistance and help with this worthwhile scheme, and we have signed up as an EFFRR Stakeholder to show our commitment to supporting this work’.
